Kayaks

We have a policy of Freedom Hire, meaning you are unaccompanied, you chose were you go and you don't have to book (although booking is advised if transport is needed). All hire includes:

Twin Kayak Hire

  • paddle
  • life jacket
  • small first-aid kit
  • dry sack

Please Note: Safety is the hirer's full responsibility. All hire is subject to weather conditions.

There are some great spots to kayak right on our doorstep. If you are not familiar with the area we can point you in the right direction for your experience level and time-frame.

Below we have provided some suggestions.

 

BULLER RIVER

Kayak on the Buller River, just a 5 minute walk from the shop. Paddle up to and under the bridge - or further for the more energetic. You could even paddle down towards Shingles Beach. This is great in the summer.

Note: The Buller River is fearsome at times and this hire is not recommended for those not confident in water.

Distance: 5 minute walk from our shop.

Transport: manpower

Berlins to Westport

This is also on the Buller river: a really neat 3 to 4 hours of paddleing down stream. For this trip transport you will need transport we can provide this, please book if it is needed.

 

SHINGLES BEACH

This is a lovely area by the mouth of the Buller River and is enjoyed by many. Jet skis, boogie borders and kayaks play in this stone bottomed water witch is mostly flat with some small waves.

Distance: 6 minutes drive from our shop.

Transport: your own van, trailer, or ute OR $15 per trip.

 

NORTH BEACH

Just over the pier, you can kayak the waves!  Waves vary, this is more exposed and than the Shingles Beach, but is a lovely area.

TAURANGA BAY

Set in a bay with a lot of great waves, this is a favourite spot for keen surfers, swimming and a great kayak spot. It's sheltered but does have big waves at times.

Distance: 20 minutes drive.

Transport: your own van, trailer, or ute OR $25 per trip.
