Experience mountainbiking the Heaphy Track through Kahurangi National Park!

A nice day ride or over night trip to the Heaphy hut is a must do ride, with only 3 weeks left of the season - get peddling!!  

From the Kohaihai River just north of Karamea to the Heaphy Hut is a great day ride taking 1.5 to 3 hours each way depending on how many great photos you take and your fitness levels. The Heaphy Hut is always a nice hut to stay in, so make it an overnighter - make sure you book your huts before you go!! This part of the track is a grade 3 and can be ridden by most riders .....just give your self lots of time. This ride is worth doing and you will 100% enjoy your self.

Please note: The Heaphy Track is only open to bikes until 30 September 2015

Latest up date

Work continues in the last two unformed sections and we now have just under 2km to go to connect these sections with formed trail on either side.  Nothing comes easy in this terrain however and we still expect this to take a solid three months to complete.  

For those eager to get through the whole trail as soon as possible, please note that the sections under construction remain closed for obvious safety (and user satisfaction) reasons and ‘through-users’ still need to follow the ‘marked route’ which involves some 8km of challenging tramping.  Refer to the trail map on our website for details (note the ‘marked route’ is depicted as a white dotted line).
